Ceremony at noon today to commemorate anniversary of Pearl Harbor
"Pearl Harbor is an United States harbor, located on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii. On December 7, 1941 Japan surprise attacked Pearl Harbor. Japan used air craft and midget submarines for the attack. The U.S. lost 2,350 soldiers, 68 civilians and there were 1,178 injured. Also the Japanese sand 4 U.S. Navy battle ships, 3 cruisers, 3 destroyers, 1 minelayer and 188 aircraft. This is one of the main reasons the United States joined WWII."
The local Wreaths Across America chapter will lay a wreath at the Old Capitol at noon today to commemorate the 68th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack. The organization will place wreaths in the courtyard between the old and new Capitols.
Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden, USMC Retired, will be the keynote speaker. Retired Navy Reserve Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr. will speak and introduce General Snowden.
Gov. Charlie Crist will attend and speak at the event.
The four JROTC units from the Leon County School system will participate in the ceremony and the Lincoln High School Choir will perform.
The Tallahassee USMC unit, Echo Company Anti-Terrorism Battalion will conduct a 21 Gun Salute.
World War II and Pearl Harbor veterans will be recognized.
The event is open to the public, and veterans are encouraged to attend.
Veterans may wear their military uniforms or civilian attire.
