Bollywood actress Zarine Khan has been conferred 'Hero to Animals' award by animal rights group, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The 'Veer' actress not only rescued a badly malnourished cat from the streets, but took her to a veterinary hospital and paid her daily visits to check on her progress.
''Ms Khan also walked barefoot to Mahim Dargah to pray for the cat's recovery. Khan named the cat 'Softy' and opened her home to the animal, ending Softy's street life. The rescue of Softy shows that Khan's beauty is much more than skin deep,'' PETA campaign coordinator, Madhuri Deshmukh said in a statement.
''We hope that her compassionate action will inspire others to always stop and render aid when they see an animal in distress and to adopt cats and dogs, not buy them,'' she added.
