What celebs look forward to in 2010
What celebs look forward to in 2010
Quite a few interesting films are lined up for release early 2010. Be it director Sajid Khan, Sirish Kunder or Ken Ghosh, they are all looking forward to their creations in the New year. While 'My Name Is Khan' and 'Kites' are the hottest contenders when it comes to the most awaited films, there are quite a few others like 'Rann' and 'Teen Patti' that may be exciting.
Producer-writer Shirish Kunder has another choice. 'In 2010, I am waiting most for 'Tees Maar Khan'. With Farah Khan at the helm of affairs and Akshay Kumar leading the case, it's going to be the peak of commercial cinema,' he told IANS. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna, hence bringing the two namesake actors together for the first time.
It may not be on the wish list of many but 'Run Bhola Run' is what excites Tusshar Kapoor most. 'For obvious reasons I am waiting for this film the most,' said the actor who will be seen with Govinda again after 'Life Partner'.
Minissha Lamba is waiting for her 'Well Done Abba'. This Shyam Benegal-directed film has been making waves in the festival circuits and is now being lined up for theatrical release. 'I am looking forward to 'Well Done Abba'. However, there are also films like 'Raavan', 'Veer', 'My Name Is Khan', 'Kites' and 'Dostana 2' on my wish list,' she said.
Ken Ghosh had a hit 'Ishq Vishk' and a miss 'Fida' with Shahid Kapoor over the years gone by. However, he is confident of 'Chance Pe Dance' hitting the bull's eye. 'Other than my own film, I am also waiting for 'Kites'', he says.
Newbie Urvashi Sharma, who began as a leading lady with 'Naqaab' and played a small role in 'Baabarr', is excited about turning over a new page in her professional career in 2010. 'I am really looking forward to two of my own films - 'Khatta Meetha' and 'Nishaad' - both with Priyadarshan. Apart from these two films, I also want to see Ambika Hinduja's 'Teen Patti' which has Mr. (Amitabh) Bachchan in it.'
Rituparna Sengupta, who was seen in 'Do Knot Disturb', has a lot to look forward to in 2010. 'For me, the most awaited films in the New Year are my own like 'Mittal vs Mittal', 'S.R.K', 'Paroksh' and 'Bum Bum Boley'.'
For filmmaker Jagmohan Mundhra, who is working on multiple films, it is 'Apartment' all the way. 'The film is ready and it should release very soon,' he said. Though she has a pivotal role in 'Apartment', it's 'Rann' that excites Neetu Chandra the most. 'It is going to be my first release of 2010 and I am counting days for the January 29 release of the film.'
Sajid Khan, who will release his 'Housefull' in May, said: 'It's obvious that 'Housefull' would be my as well as audiences' choice of 2010.' For Kareena Kapoor, the choice is obvious - 'Ra 1'. Though she is not saying it yet, the buzz is that she has more or less signed on the dotted line for this Shah Rukh Khan starrer sci-fi super hero film which is being directed by Anubhav Sinha of 'Dus' fame.

Trisha's Bollywood Move
Trisha's Bollywood Move
Trisha is clear about what she wants. The lass intends to do as many films as possible in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. Trisha, who is currently shooting for her first Hindi film with Akshay Kumar, Khatta Meeta — directed by Priyadarsan in Mumbai, has confirmed that she has signed a film with Ravi Teja.
She’ll start shooting for this film in February 2010. The movie is to be directed by Gopichand, an associate of ace director Seenu Vytla.
She said, “I want to do films in all languages that I’m comfortable in. I do not want to be tied down to one particular language as everybody is thinking global these days.” Trisha has a point as other actresses like Genelia and Aishwarya are doing films in different languages. Genelia, apart from doing three Hindi films, has signed two new films in Tamil and Telugu while Aishwarya Rai is doing a Tamil film (Endhiran) apart from her Hindi projects.
Trisha confessed, “The idea is to space out the projects and be comfortable with whatever you are doing. Actually, it is the movies in the south that have given me the reach that I enjoy today. So, I prefer to work on Telugu and Tamil films first. My first Hindi release will be only in the summer of 2010.”
Trisha, Genelia and Hansika are all doing south movies because the money is much more than what they make from Hindi films. Also, it’ll take them longer to get into the elite ‘A’ list of actors.
Meanwhile, Trisha is all set to head to Hyderabad for the audio launch of her Telugu film Nammo

Venkatesa’with Venkatesh on December 18. On the same night, she will fly to London for the audio launch of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (VTV), which is to be held the next day.
“The VTV audio launch, which is expected to be attended by a host of dignitaries including AR Rahman, is sure going to rock. Rahman is my all -time favourite music director. I grew up listening to his music. I’m looking forward to meeting him in London,” she said.

De Dana Dan Music Review
De Dana Dan Music Review
EXPECTATIONS
MUSIC
There is a very pleasant surprise in store though at the very beginning of the album with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan coming up with an extremely likeable 'Rishte Naate'. A beautiful love song which is set in a mould similar to that of 'Teri Ore' [Singh Is Kinng], 'Rishte Naate' is also elevated further due to some very good writing by Sayeed Quadri. The combination works perfectly well with English rendition by Suzanne Demello being an icing on the cake. The song's remix makes for a good club outing as well with Kunal Ganjawala replacing Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for this version and still giving a good account of himself. It is surprising that such a beautiful sounding track is being released so late in the day when the film is a mere 20 days away from release.
Mood of the album changes soon after with some groovy beats making 'Paisa' a number to jive along. This is the kind of track that doesn't necessarily make a huge impression in the very first outing but grows on you tremendously after it has been played for a few times. The way RDB writes, composes and sings this track with Manak-E and Selina has a 'desi' feel to it as well that makes it stand out in the crowd. This is the kind of track which has Punjabi folk fusion written all over it and can be heard in the North India belt. A theme song about money being the driving force behind all the acts, 'Paisa Paisa', which also has a supporting 'Club Mix' version, can be a hugely popular track provided it is bombarded on music channels 24X7.
For fourth song in a row, there is a different lyricist roped in. This time around it is Irshaad Kamil who writes a celebration track 'Baamulaiza'. Even though Mika Singh is at the helm of affairs, one really misses Neeraj Sreedhar here who would have made a difference to the final outcome. A rhythmic track that has Style Bhai coming up with his rap-n-reggae, 'Baamulaiza' (which too has a 'remix version' in the offering) makes for a fine hearing though not necessarily belonging to the hit variety. It's nice to see though that Dominique Cerejo, an erstwhile background vocalist, gets yet another number as a playback singer to her credit.
The trend of a separate lyricist for each of the songs continues with Neeraj Sreedhar writing 'Hotty Naughty' which reminds one of lesser heard 'Aage Aage Dekhe Ja' [Life Partner] in its beginning portions. An obvious item number that has been crooned by Sunidhi Chauhan and is picturised on Neha Dhupia, 'Hotty Naughty' is more fun than sensual which ensures that the proceedings do not become risqué. A passable peppy track that should look good on screen with some eye catchy picturisation, it falls under the bracket of being time pass and that's about it. Kalpana Patwari sings the 'remix version' but frankly, one would prefer Sunidhi's rendition here.
OVERALL
In the recent times, there have been quite some quality musical scores like Kurbaan, Tum Mile, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Radio that have managed to make an impact. Most of these have a classy feel to it. In comparison, De Dana Dan has a massy feel to it with numbers like 'Paisa' and title song making a good impression. 'Baamulaiza' and 'Hotty Naughty' don't have a much future though beyond the film's run in theatres. However, if there is a track that would be remembered at least for a few more months to come, it would be 'Rishte Naate'.

De Dana Dan Movie Rating: 3.5 / 5
De Dana Dan Movie Review:
De Dana Dan almost marks a decade of the end of the sensitivity and sensibility of director Priyadarshan who switched on to commercially driven comedy capers post the success of Hera Pheri . De Dana Dan also almost marks a decade of the widespread acceptability that the slapstick genre has gained in scarcity of sane comedies.
Going by its casting, do not expect De Dana Dan to be a sequel, tribute or extension of the Hera Pheri series. Forget the threesome chemistry, there is hardly a single frame in the film where the trio of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal share screen space. Except of course for the trademark Priyadarshan style chaotic climax where again their chemistry is diluted (literally through flooding fuss) as the entire cast joins them for more commotion.
Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar) is a driver under debt and Ram Mishra (Sunil Shetty) is a courier boy who hasn’t delivered much in life. Though both have already assigned girlfriends (Katrina, Sameera) for them, the film still takes too long to come to point. Money is the need of the hour and so Priyadarshan does some hera pheri in the story – which means a kidnap. Just this time the duo kidnaps a canine and you wonder if the film is going to the dogs.
As you try to keep a count on the ever-increasing character artists, the entire cast checks-in a five star hotel. Soon the story takes the shape of the 1992 Hollywood flick ‘ Blame it on the Bellboy ’ which was remade in Bollywood just a year ago as ‘ One Two Three ’ (and also starred Sunil Shetty and Sameera Reddy). A comedy of errors ensues with characters doing Bhagam Bhag throughout the hotel.
Call it a ‘wardrobe’ disaster but Akshay Kumar is locked in one for practically an hour of the film’s runtime. With a seemingly lost Sunil Shetty and a screeching loud Paresh Rawal, it’s left up to the character artists to save the ship. But a flood is induced in the climax as the director seeks inspiration from another Hollywood flick ‘ The Towering Inferno ’ (1974) with each character going down the drain.
As the name suggests, De Dana Dan is a quickie flick which is hastily written, rapidly filmed, has swift storytelling and speeding characters giving you no time to breathe, gasp, feel, absorb react or relate. The film takes time to kick-off and nothing much happens in the first half. The second half gains momentum with cross-connections of characters inside the hotel. The more you attempt to keep a track of the individual tracks, the more it confuses you. The less you try to join the links, the more it binds you.
What could have been the USP of the film, acts against it with the comic chemistry of Akshay-Paresh-Sunil clearly missing. In fact the other character artists add more value to the film varying from the deafening ones (Archana Puran Singh, Manoj Joshi) to the hilarious ones (Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani). Undoubtedly the humour is loud and noisy but this slapstick is appended with some story (Suresh Krishanan). Unfortunately for a comedy, the dialogues are pretty lame with not sufficient punches or one-liners.
Pritam’s music is quite outdated this time and every song is forced into the narrative. Salim-Sulaiman’s background score is loud and at several instances overshadows the dialogues. With a major part of the film being shot inside the hotel, the camerawork isn’t much demanding and K Ahambaram does well as the cinematographer. The art direction (Sabu Cyril) and SFX (Red Chillies) effects for the deluge sequence in the climax are well executed though it doesn’t contribute much to the film. For a comedy, De Dana Dan is considerably long at almost 3 hour runtime and could have been more crisply edited.
Akshay Kumar repeats himself but is funny at times. Sunil Shetty seems jaded and uninterested. Paresh Rawal hams. Archana Puran Singh is in the Masti mould. Manoj Joshi goes over the top. Johnny Lever gets the best sequences and is clearly the scene-stealer. Rajpal Yadav and Asrani are equally hilarious. Katrina Kaif looks pretty. Sameera Reddy and Aditi Govitrikar can’t act. Neha Dhupia is better amongst the females. Chunky Pandey is non-existent. Vikram Gokhale looks miscast in comedy, which he has probably attempted for the first time.
